In 2008-2009 we will be increasing the number of in-school and after school programs we are involved with.  Additionally Triangle United has partnered with the Special Olympics of NC, and we have also pursued other opportunities to support local fitness and charitable events with volunteers. The additional activities include:

During 2007-2008, some of the community activities we participated with included the following:

  • After School Program at Hargreaves Community Center
  • After School Program at Forest View Elementary School
  • Organized volunteers for the Children’s Fund of NC Run for the Kids
  • Assisted with the Chapel Hill Service League Christmas House

We feel these volunteer opportunities are excellent chances to develop a greater appreciation for community service for Triangle United players, and look forward to providing increasing numbers of volunteer activities throughout the year.

Triangle United Partners with DBYAL and PAL

Triangle United, the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League (DBYAL), and the Police Athletic League (PAL) of Durham, have joined together to create an inner-city soccer program for Durham elementary schools.

We have targeted 8 elementary schools in the City of Durham to work with this Fall.  Those 8 schools are Burton, CC Spaulding, Club Blvd, Eastway, Merrick Moore, Morehead, WG Pearson, and YE Smith.  The schools train once during the week and play games on Saturday mornings at CC Spaulding Elementary School.  This program is completely FREE to all participants.

The program began the week of October 4th and the first set of games took place on Saturday October 9th.  The goal of the program is to encourage elementary kids to get active and particpate in the sport of soccer. Through this we hope to also teach the kids teamwork, values, sportsmanship, leadership skills, and so forth.  Each school is set up with a Durham Police officer along with other volunteers from the school as well as the community.

The target number for each school was to get 30 participants, which would get our program up to 240 players.  Currently we have exceeded that number with more players and schools wanting to get involved.  As more information and pictures of the program become available, we will put online for everyone to view.

We would like to thank Eurosport Soccer for their donation of 120 soccer balls as well as 240 t-shirts (8 colors x 30 shirts) for each of the schools to wear on game day.

To find out more information about the DBYAL, please click here.  To find out more information about PAL, please email Officer Erwin Baker.  If you would like to volunteer time or make a donation to the program, please contact John Cirillo (Triangle United Director of Soccer and DBYAL Board Member) at 919.942.2031 or by emailing John.  The schedule for the program is here; below you will find some photos of players participating in the program.
